India start title defence with 25 run victory

Yuvaraj singh dazzled with the bat before pragyan ojha spun a web around the Bangladeshi tigers as India won the minnows by 25 runs to begin their title defence with a bang in the Twenty20 world cup.

Ojha’s 4 wicket haul in his maiden T20 international broke Bangladesh’s back as the minnows finished at 155/8 a total they owe to Junaid Siddique (41) and Naeem islam (28).

Earlier Gambhir (50) and Rohit(36) gave a brillant start but it was yuvi’s 41 of 18 balls and irfan’s 11 of 3 balls which made India to set a target of 181.

The Bangladeshies had a good start but failed to keep the momentum. It was Yusuf who brought the initial break through and then followed by ojha. Ojha was the trump card for MS Dhoni.

Finally India won the Bangladeshi Tigers by 25 runs to start their way to defend their title. Prgyan Ojha was awarded the man of the match.

Air France flight disappears

A Air France flight carrying 228 passengers from Rio de Janeiro to Paris ran into lightning and strong thunderstroms over the Atlantic Ocean, officials said today. Brazil began a search mission off its northeastern coast.

Chief Air France spokesman Francois said “it is possible that the plane was hit by lightning.

About four hours later, the plane sent an automatic signal indicating an electrical problem while going through the turbulence, Air France said.

Brazil’s air force said the last contact it had with the Air france was at 9:30 pm Sunday, but did not say where the plane was at that time.

Brazil’s air force was searching near the archipelago of Fernando de Noronha, about 180 miles northeast of the coast.

NEW DATES FOR 2009 CL T20

The BCCI,CA and CSA announced the rescheduling of the champions league T20 in 2009.

The three founding member boards reiterated that this was a goodwill response ti a request from the ICC to consider new playin dates fo 2009.

The CL T20 will now be held from October 8 to 23, the three cricket boards said in a joint statement. In all 12 teams will be taking part in the competition.

The Champions League Twenty20 was scheduled to be held from september 25 to october 10, 2009 but the ICC has rescheduled the champions trophy from september 24 to october 5 2009 to be held in Pakistan.

Sice there is a clash of dates, the three founding member boards decided on the fresh dates for 2009 CL T20.

The inaugural Champions League T20 will be held from december 3 to 10 this year. Eight teams, consisting of the reigning winners and runners up from domestic T20 competions in India, Australia and South Africa along with the T20 champion from England, Pakistan have been invited to the contest the 2008 champions T20 League.

The tournament offers US$6 million prize money, the biggesr prize money in the world for cricket at a domestic competion level. The prize money, including US$3 million for the winning team, will be shared between the teams and their players.

It was a roaring start for the may series. The benchmark indices saw biggest single day gain since october 31, 2008. The SENSEX closed above the 12,000 mark while the NIFTY settled above the 3650 level. This sharp rally was majorly lead by the metal, technology, banking, capital goods, FMCG and auto stocks. The broader indices also followed the same trend.

Positive global cues also played a key role in today’s gain. The Sensex outperformed the Asian and the European markets. Funds flows were high from the FII. Experts see a bullish rally throughout the month until and unless there is something negative. Any way the foriegn investments have increased and hence we should say that good time has started fo the indian markets.

India ended a 13-year wait to clinnch their fourth Azlan Sha Cup title, comprehensively defeating hosts Malaysia 3-1 in the final of the five-nation tournament here on sunday.

Skipper Sandeep Singh, who stroked in 6 of India’s 12 goals, was declared Player of the Tournament for being the top-scorer of the events as well.

Arjun Halappa (8th min), Prabhjot Singh (20th) and Shivender Singh (41st) sounded the board for India through neatly worked out field goals, while Misron (11th) reduced the margin for the hosts.

Earlier in the day, NewZealand defeated Pakistan 2-1 in a play-off match to secure 3rd spot at the Azlan Shah stadium
